Hello and thank you so much for visiting Cozynookbks. I appreciate it. My name is Laurie and I love reading books, reviewing them, and sharing my thoughts with family, friends and whoever else is interested. My favorite genres are:  mysteries (including cozies), contemporary fiction, historical fiction, romance, true crime, and literary fiction.  I do not read books that contain paranormal themes, the supernatural, ghosts, witches, vampires, zombies, or well, you get the picture. I especially enjoy Jane Austen’s works and variations thereof. I read for the purpose of relaxation, learning new things, and to escape into another world for just a little while. I’m fond of most things British, including books, t.v. shows (especially mysteries), movies and customs.  I love traveling to the mountains and relishing the beautiful views. I’m also fond of backyard birds and their antics, my silly cat Kit-Kat, drinking tea out of lovely teacups, collecting attractive teapots, and enjoying quiet time with my loving husband. I enjoy writing letters on pretty stationery to send to faraway and nearby friends and family.  You can find me on:

  8. Books, tea, views and anything British ! i am so glad you found me, then I found you 🙂 I am British but live in Australia. I find the longer i am here, the more I crave anything British, be it a TV show or good old Yorkshire Tea Bags. I love your header image ❤

      I am convinced that I belong in the U.K. I love so much about the culture. I’m even doing a little British giveaway soon. I wish I could offer it to my international readers. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Postage is just too high.
      So how does your accent sound? Do you still sound British, or is it a mix of Aussie and Brit? Sound like you miss England. Are you from England? You could be from Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. I love reading books set in the U.K. There are so many wonderful British authors. I hope to get to the U.K. some day but I don’t think it’s likely that I will. At least I can get my fix through books and by watching reruns of Escape to the Country. 😂

      • I sound very British apparently !! Most days my accent gets mentioned especially meeting strangers in the shops etc. I came here when I was 34 and I think thats too late to change. I am from Cambridgeshire which is a beautiful part of England. My parents live in a small village where I went to school. Very “Escape to the Country”. I don’t think I appreciated it enough when I was young. My name is Helen and it’s lovely to meet you too. I am always on hand with ideas of new British TV to watch ! I love it all. Very excited for the wedding 😊😊

        • Now I have to look up Cambridgeshire, Helen. 💜 Your early life resembles the kind I like to read about in British novels. I can’t get enough of the books that describe quaint villages and country life. I always tell my husband I was born in the wrong country, and era.
          I like so many British shows!! If you have any favorites, please share.
          My friend invited a group over her house to watch the Royal Wedding on Saturday morning at 6:00 a.m. ☺️

          • I guess it was a little bit “Famous Five” . I read all of the series as a kid. But we didn’t drink “lashings and lashings of ginger beer ” 😉. I am so excited about the wedding. Are you going to have champers at 6am ?? Lucky for us footage starts at 7pm on tv here but it will be 9pm when the actual wedding is on.
            I have just started Season 2 of The Crown. I ❤it so much !! I have also ordered the book you recommended xx

          • I had to look up champers. 😂 If you mean wine probably not since it will be so early in the morning. And oddly enough I don’t drink any alcoholic beverages because I don’t like the taste. Isn’t that crazy?
            I’ve heard so many good things about The Crown. I’m going to have to watch that series.

      • I am actually English and from a very pretty village near Cambridge. It is very “Escape to the Country ” !! I don’t think we appreciated it as kids growing up there. I spent 4 years, most of my high school, in Singapore. That was an experience. I still sound exactly the same as we came here when I was 34 so I think my accent is engrained !! It often gets commented on here. By strangers in shops especially. .I shall have to keep you updated with any new tv shows and vice versa😊😊

        • I love the British accent. Sometimes I confuse it with the Australian accent, but it’s definitely different.
          Singapore??! Wow….that must have been a very different experience for you coming from a small village in England. I think the English Countryside is magnificent! I hope to see it one day. And no, we probably take for granted where we live. I was born and raised in NYC and never thought twice about it when people would give so much just to be able to visit New York one time.

          • I am on the other spectrum now ! I can be in Sydney in an hour and have to pinch myself everytime I am there. NY is on my bucket list ❤

          • I hope you get the opportunity to visit NY. It’s overwhelming there, even for me, and I lived there most of my life. Everything is in NY. EVERYTHING! You can never get bored there. But now that I’m older I prefer a bit more calm. New York is very crowded and I can’t take all of the chaos now. It gives me anxiety. I love visiting though, and I miss many things about living there. Especially the people because here in the South we (me and hubby) can’t travel wherever we want whenever we want because of attitudes towards minorities and I get frustrated because of that. I wish the world was a better place. 😔

          • I have no time for people with a negative attitude towards minorities. My husband faced so much growing up. My daughter is fine in her environment but is quite aware of her skin colour and some of the things she has said to me in the past have broken my heart, even though she is constantly told how gorgeous her skin is, it has inadvertently from a bubba made her feel different. We are in a very multicultural city here in Wollongong thankfully.

          • Thanks for that. I think I read that your husband is from India. Is that right? As a black woman I can tell you that it’s frustrating existing in a world where people look down on others just because of skin color. It’s something we have to contend with almost every day, especially living in the southern U.S. I’m sorry your husband experienced it growing up.

            I’m sure your daughter is gorgeous! I’m so sorry she’s had to contend with the ignorance. I can only imagine how it makes you feel as her mum.

            I have to look up where Wollongong Australia is.

          • Yes he is half Indian, half Irish. There are many many parts of Australia that are racist too, I found that quite a shock when we got here to hear some peoples opinions in such a country where most people are immigrants! Crazy. Milly is an absolute beauty and our pride and joy 🙂
            But it has opened my eyes having a child of mixed race that is for sure!

          • I think racism exists everywhere in some form, unfortunately. A fellow blogger from Kenya said they deal with tribalism. We all have to live on this earth and contend with universal problems like sickness, aging and death, among other things, so why do we have to add unnecessary pain and suffering by discriminating and hating one another? I can’t understand it. 🤦🏽‍♀️

  12. Thank you for the recent follow on my blog, Laurie. I am looking forward to reading some of your reviews. I definitely share your love for reading and love many of the same types of books that you do, although I have never been able to get into Jane Austen. I like the movies, though! Ha, ha!
