WARNING: MEAN, CREEPY CHILD ALERT!!
If youāve ever seen the 1956 movie, The Bad Seed, the little girl in Baby Teeth is a younger version of that disturbed child, but worse!! Hannaās behaviour makes it clear that thereās something seriously amiss with her, but her father refuses to acknowledge it since sheās all sunshine and roses when sheās with him. Consequently, her motherās accusations about their daughter fall on deaf ears. Sweet little Hanna couldnāt possibly be as bad as Suzette asserts. Or could she? Suzette is a nervous wreck, trying to find out whatās wrong with Hanna. Everything she says to her daughter is taken as a personal affront, and Hanna lies in wait for the perfect opportunity to retaliate. She wants her father to herself, but has she gone too far to achieve her goal?
I was scared yāall. While reading Baby Teeth I had mixed emotions. But mostly I was feeling like…
Hannaās devious, demented mind made me stop and ponder what Iād do if I had a child like her. Sometimes I felt like shouting at Hannaās mother….RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!
At other times I wondered what Suzette could have done to make her daughter feel the way she did. š¤
I enjoyed this book. It was well-written and compulsively readable. I felt intrigued, horrified, angry, compassionate and sad while reading it. I did have a couple of issues with the book. For one thing, Hannaās internal dialog, at times, seemed too mature for a seven-year-old child, even a precocious one. I had to suspend disbelief to believe that she could contemplate and then execute some of the dastardly things she did. Another issue stemmed from the authorās occasional use of vulgar language which was entirely unnecessary. Iād be reading along happily and then BAM!, I would get hit with a vulgar word or statement and I thought, āwhat just happened here?!ā š” Omitting those parts would not have changed the highly satisfying quality of the book.
Overall, Baby Teeth was a very good thriller that kept me in suspense, frightened me and left me with a contented smile on my face at the end.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press for an ARC of Baby Teeth. All opinions about the book are honest and entirely my own.
Have a great day everyone, and thank you so much for visiting.
Great reviewāI read this book, and it is creepy! A real sociopath!

I read a book similar in description in the 70’s, but can’t remember the nameš¤. I can’t handle anything real creepy or scary anymore!

I really canāt either to tell you the truth. I wonāt read horror or books with blood and gore. This one was not like that. But she did have some creepy ways about her. Believe me, if it was too much I would have given up.

You were right Angela! š« That little girl had some serious issues. I felt a little bad for chuckling at the ending.š
Iām happy the Bitmoji reactions made you smile. Thatās the intended reaction. I think most of us could use a little laughter these days.
Thanks for stopping by. Always so nice to hear from you. š

Wow, amazing review Laurie. I worry about the overly creepy behaviour of this little girl, but still want to read it. Knowing that Hannah is extremely precocious going in will help with the detailed and devious thoughts she has.

Hi Carla!! š Thanks!!
I think you can handle it. Hanna is a devious little girl with some very wild thoughts and actions, but if youāve prepared yourself going in I think youāll be okay. š

This sounds way too scary for me. Yikes! How about a nannycam, to catch the monster in action?

Hi Jacqui!! Hannaās diabolical actions gave me pause. I think she was too smart for a nannycam. š

Wow! Thanks for the warning. Definitely not my cup of tea. I have trouble shaking things like that from my brain. Iāll just focus on your final pleasant picture and wish you a nice weekend. I hope you had a good vacation and that the inevitable catch up time is not too difficult.

Great review Laurie! I had similar feelings about this book. Hanna sure was scary, some of the scenes still haunt me. I do agree though that some of her thoughts and actions were too mature. All in all, she was creepy. Glad you enjoyed this book.

Thanks Diana. Yes, a few scenes made me wince for sure. At times I felt like Hannaās voice was too adult-like. I had to remind myself that she was only seven.
Thanks for stopping over and commenting. š
